A closer look

Once home I was able to take a closer look at what damage existed. This was going to be a big project but what the hell, lets take on the challenge.

Starting at the transom there was serious damage at the lower pintle, and the join between the transom and the port side floor panel.

The port aft quarter was also severely damaged at the corner where all three ply panels met.

Moving along the side and everything was in place until we came to the area where the bulkheads are. This is one pf the strongest points of the hull and the stresses that the impact provided were spread along the joins in this area. Both side panels were damaged by taking the impact that the bulkheads had transferred. Although only one side is shown, both sides had similar fractures.

It appeared that the main watertight bulkhead had taken the main force of the impact and being one of the strongest parts of the hull had dissipated the forces in every direction. Unfortunately this resulted in many damaged panels. The two forward lower chines had been severely damaged and were discarded. The snub nose was also shattered along one edge. Surprisingly the underside of the fore deck looked OK. The bulkhead was also discarded as it had too much damage to perform the task of providing strength at this crucial location.

With a better look at what was required I started thinking of  how difficult the project could be. I decided to give it a go.
